Maribor – the second largest city surrounded by winegrowing hills, forests of Pohorje and by Drava River that had a strong influence on its origin and on which lumber rafting can be organized. The old city of Lent is especially valuable because of a 400 years old vine – the world’s oldest vine listed in the Guinness book of records. From Lent with the remains of an old defence wall a walk can be taken pass Minorite monastery to Glavni trg square with its vividness of every day life and numerous eminent buildings and squares like City Hall, Rotovški-, Slomškov- and Grajski trg squares. In the building of the City Castle there is an interesting Landscape museum. Many events take place in Maribor but the best known of all would probably be the Lent Festival in June.
Pohorje – for the ones that crave for recreation and hiking nearby Maribor there is a plateau Pohorje revealing its charms in the winter as well as in the summer. It is best known of the Golden Fox skiing competition – the traditional World Cup ski race for women taking place on Pohorje every year.
